Walk a stretch of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail for sweeping river views, tackle the switchbacks of Dog Mountain for wildflowers and panoramic summit views each spring, or keep it easy with the Rowena Crest Overlook and Sorosis Park loop, both an easy drive from the Inn.
PADDLING
Calm water and dramatic scenery make The Dalles a paddler’s favorite. Launch a kayak or canoe from The Dalles Marina or Columbia Hills State Park, or bring a paddleboard down to the quiet channels near Riverfront Park.
BIKING
Two wheels are the best way to see the Gorge. Ride the Historic Columbia River Highway for waterfalls and views, push yourself on the climbs of the Syncline Trail, or keep it relaxed on The Dalles Riverfront Trail, a flat path perfect for families.
WINERIES & BREWERIES
The Dalles has grown into a real destination for wine and beer. Sample local pours at Sunshine Mill Winery & Market, grab a pint at one of downtown’s microbreweries, or make the short drive to Maryhill Winery for a view-filled tasting.
FISHING
The Columbia River is legendary for salmon and steelhead, especially near the dam, while the lower Deschutes River offers quieter trout fishing through scenic canyon country. Lake Celilo and the warmer Columbia waters are popular for bass in summer.
WINDSURFING & KITEBOARDING
Steady Gorge winds make The Dalles a top spot for windsurfing and kiteboarding, with open water and easy launch access along the riverfront and nearby Maryhill State Park.
