Our Story
Celilo Inn sits on a hillside overlooking the Columbia River, a place shaped by generations of travel, trade, and gathering.
Our name comes from Celilo Falls, one of the most important Indigenous fishing and gathering places on the Columbia. For thousands of years, Native peoples have come to this stretch of the river to fish for salmon, trade, and carry on traditions deeply tied to the Gorge.
Our own property has welcomed travelers for decades. Beginning as a classic roadside motel in the mid-20th century, it later became The Inn at The Dalles before being reimagined as Celilo Inn in 2009.
Today, we carry both stories forward: the deep history of the river and the timeless spirit of the American road trip.

COLUMBIA GORGE DISCOVERY CENTER & MUSEUM
The Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum in The Dalles explores the natural and cultural history of the Columbia River Gorge. Exhibits bring the region to life through stories of Native peoples, Lewis and Clark, pioneer settlement, geology, wildlife, and the forces that shaped this remarkable landscape.
Maryhill Museum of Art
Maryhill Museum of Art sits high above the Columbia River and features an eclectic collection of art, sculpture, fashion, and historic artifacts. Visitors can explore works by Auguste Rodin, Native American art, European and American pieces, and rotating exhibitions, all surrounded by sweeping views of the Columbia River Gorge.
Fort Dalles Museum
Fort Dalles Museum is one of Oregon’s oldest history museums, located in the historic Surgeon’s Quarters of the former Fort Dalles military post. Its exhibits explore early pioneer life, military history, Native American culture, and the development of The Dalles, with historic artifacts, photographs, and period furnishings.
